Artificial Grass Installation

Access to the garden if often a main part of time and cost that need to be factored in. First however, we need to send over an expert to carry out a survey. Installation is paramount to longevity to artificial lawns and often there are short cuts that can be taken often linked to cheaper quotes. You should go through the right processes and deapths of foundations depths, very similar to building works and driveways.
In normal soil types with good drainage installations the following processes are undertaken:
- Using a turf cutter remove the turf.
- We would then dig down and remove soil to a depth 80-100 mm
- Where there is not an edge or a wall to butt grass up to, install timber edgings around the perimeter using wooden stakes to secure and create a boundary.
- Prepare the ground, i.e. remove humps and bumps leaving natural falls. Should the area have drainage problems, we recommend a type 1 stone base and soak-always are installed. Click here to know more.
- Once the area has been levelled, install 6mm to dust granite stone (damp) and screed. This gives you a flat even surface. Once complete, using a plasterer’s float, cleanly chamfer the 6mm to dust stone or sand into the edging.
- Compact the area using a compactor plate, and apply water mist across the area before compacting to allow the 6mm to dust stone to bind together.
- Cover the area with a Geotex material weed membrane to discourage weed growth. Stretch out Lay and secure the Artificial grass and where possible, it is advised that you run the surface towards the property (i.e. looking into the pile), so that when you look out the window of the property, it gives the most natural look.
- When fully fixed and dependant on the Artificial grass we would then dress the grass with top quality kilm dried sand.
- We would then use a power brush to present the grass.
- The installation should only be carried out during dry weather. Should the lawn get wet, this will cause problems when infilling with the sand.
